As an expert across sewer vent design, fabrication and installation, SVSR is always looking for new ways to improve our service, and our latest innovation is the Odour Control Unit Diverter.
The Odour Control Unit Diverter sits at the bottom of a sewer vent shaft, introducing a valve in between the two key pieces. It diverts gases into an odour control unit to effectively reduce the amount of odour going out in the atmosphere.
According to Chris Antoun, SVSR’s CAD Specialist, this innovation is relatively new for Hunter Water.
SVSR has made R&D a focus in recent years, with research into sustainable odour control and the introduction of new sewer vent features including a unique valve control.
The Odour Control Unit Diverter is the latest of our innovations for the wastewater industry – and it’s a design with immediate and long-term benefits.
The Odour Control Unit Diverter is usually adopted at sewer vent pump stations where’s there’s a lot of maintenance work and the space to house the unit, rather than vent lines through communities where there is less space for essential maintenance to be completed. This control unit diverts odorous gases through carbon filters which reduces odour.
Monadelphous, an engineering group working across construction, maintenance and industrial services in the resources and energy sector, invested in an Odour Control Unit Diverter.
Duncan Reynolds, SVSR’s R&D Manager, explains how the team solved a problem for Monadelphous.
“Monadelphous needed to install vent shafts at Wyee for their client, Hunter Water. The vent shafts needed to be made according to their specification. Hunter Water also wanted the option of installing odour filters later on, in case there is a future requirement,” Duncan says.
“Robin Adams, our General Manager, consulted with an OCU manufacturer to arrange specs for their odour filters. Following this, Robin, Chris and Millie drew up a solution.”
Robin adds: “The design marries several unique features and we’ve ensured it’s compatible with compliant vent shafts.”
“We’ve also focused on flexibility, giving owners the option to remove the OCU further down the track and to redeploy it elsewhere if needed.”
“If the performance results require changes in the future, the system can be easily reconfigured, maximising use of the Water Authority’s assets.”
The SVSR team works with clients to understand the size of a vent and the best location for the unit. Every installation is designed custom to the client. Everything is completed in-house at SVSR, including the ordering, fabrication, and design.
We engage third-party engineers for designs, so there’s no need for our clients to go to various contractors. With a client’s size, dimension and location requirements, Chris uses a CAD program to come up with a solution – in an interactive, iterative process.
At SVSR, we offer an end-to-end service for sewer vent shaft solutions. Please contact us for the design, fabrication and installation of sewer vents, vent cowls and odour filters – or to discuss an odour control unit diverter custom-made for your needs.
